New painting in Progress! Rick Edmiston

I like the solid rough feel of this portrait begun in Butterfield's Roadhouse during a performance by talented musician, Rick Edmiston . This is my first time painting ala prima in acrylic, since I typically sketch in watercolor. There are just a few details I want to perfect, like the size of the guitar, and catching highlights. I'm very wary of overworking this piece, thinking the looseness suits the musician. Check back next week to see how it is going. Gert

Portrait submitted into competition

I just completed Woman With a Straw Hat in time for the international Portrait competition. The painting began with model Susan Mcquire posing most of the day. I put the finishing touches on in the studio.
